Vegetated gravel filters (reed beds)
Vegetated gravel filters or reed beds can be of different types depending on the water to be treated, the pollutants and the objectives: horizontal subsurface flow wetlands or vertical flow wetlands, aerobic or anaerobic filters, as well as combined vegetated filters for improved nitrogen treatment. Adding reactive substrates can provide additional treatment efficiency.
